Thinking of you

We lost my sister-in-law Ginni last February, on Valentine’s Day. She passed away at the age of 86 from lewy body dementia. Taking charge of herself to the end, when things finally got too difficult to manage, she asked for help and her family swooped in, wrapping their arms around her.

She was an artist her whole life, traditionally at first with canvas and paint. Then later, when her husband Butchie became ill, she turned to fabric and thread, hand stitching her muslin “canvases” as she sat by his bedside.

We have two of her works on our wall, positioned prominently since our move. Each is a model to me as I ponder my next step in knitting – though I’m not sure I could ever be as free.

Borrowing one of her titles seems right to me now, for my knitted homage.

Thinking of You by Virginia (Hoss) Fresina

Perfectly named I’d say, perhaps as a message to Butchie back then. And now as a message from me.

Thinking of you, my next knit design, coming soon.
